A perfect weekend in Evergreen, Colorado

Evergreen rewards an unhurried pace. Here's a loose two-night rhythm we've watched guests fall into — enough of a plan to feel your time is well spent, with plenty of room to do nothing at all.

Friday — arrive and settle

Drop your bags, pour a glass of something, and let the quiet land. When you're hungry, head into downtown Evergreen — about ten minutes away — for dinner. Lariat Lodge Brewing has house beers and one of the best patios in town; Cactus Jack's Saloon is the classic burgers-and-live-music spot; Murphy's Mountain Grill sits cozily on Bear Creek.

Saturday — trail, lake, town

Start slow with coffee — Bivouac roasts on-site downtown, Muddy Buck is a local staple. Then walk to Elk Meadow from the house for a morning on the trail before the day warms.

In the afternoon, head to Evergreen Lake. In summer you can rent a paddleboard, kayak, or canoe from the boathouse, or just walk the easy loop over the boardwalk. Wander historic downtown afterward for galleries, Bear Creek, and an early dinner.

Good to know — Grab groceries on the way in — King Soopers and Natural Grocers are both minutes away in Bergen Park — so Saturday can be entirely about being here.

Sunday — a little more, or a lot less

Take a slow morning on the deck. If you want one more outing before heading down the hill, a show or a hike at Red Rocks is about half an hour away, and Denver is close enough for brunch or a museum.

Or do none of it. The whole point of a mountain weekend is that the best plan is often no plan at all.
