Red Rocks from Evergreen: the easy night out

Red Rocks Amphitheatre — a natural bowl between two 300-foot sandstone monoliths — is about a 25 to 30 minute drive from the house. It's a bucket-list concert, and staying in Evergreen means you're back in the quiet within the half hour.

The venue is open-air and the weather is mountain weather, so bring layers even on a warm day — nights cool off fast. Arrive early; parking fills and the walk down to the seats takes time (and altitude makes those stairs count).

The part most people miss

Red Rocks Park is free and open on non-event days. Walk the Trading Post Trail, a 1.4-mile loop through the formations, or come at dawn for the view without the crowds.

In summer, the venue runs Yoga on the Rocks mornings and the Film on the Rocks series — a movie under the stars in the most dramatic theater imaginable. Tickets go fast; check the schedule when you book your stay.
